Wedding Cake Flavors: Which to Choose?

With so many possible wedding cake flavors out there, let’s talk about which to choose! I’ve had everything from cake lovers to people who have “never really loved cake” walk through my door. And after a cake tasting, one of the best compliments I receive as a cake artist is, “That is delicious, and I don’t even like cake!” Everyone is familiar with traditional chocolate and vanilla, and maybe even carrot cake and red velvet…but let’s dive into a few other possibilities!
Our cake flavor menu includes 13 incredible flavors to choose from. For those that want to stay true to traditional basics, we offer vanilla, chocolate, and party time, our take on “funfetti”. These are all paired with a vanilla American buttercream, with the option of choosing a chocolate buttercream to pair with the chocolate cake for our chocolate lovers. But where your cake tasting with us will include 6 of our most popular flavors, this is your opportunity to indulge in flavors you’ve possibly not considered!
Aside from traditional vanilla and chocolate, we offer flavors that are bit more complex, but stay true to familiar favorites! Here you’ll find things such as cookies n cream, marble, and our cream cheese buttercream paired cakes: carrot, red velvet, and spice. It may be coincidental, but we’ve found that our cakes with warmer flavor tones, such as the carrot and spice cake, are more popular in the fall and winter than the summer! For our cookies n cream fans, a moist vanilla base filled with chunks or Oreos, topped with a cookies n cream buttercream does not dissappoint.

Lastly, we have our gourmet cake flavors which in addition to their buttercream pairing are filled with a homemade fruit filling or caramel. From wedding cake and salted caramel delight, to coconut dream and raspberry lemonade, these flavors are indulgent and crowd favorites. Both the fresh raspberry filling and the lemon curd have a hint of tartness, which create the perfect balance, complementing their cake and frosting pairings. And if you’re a fan of something tropical, may I suggest coconut cream. Tender coconut layers with a smooth pineapple curd and creamy coconut buttercream will take you straight to paradise.

Now let’s talk texture and appearance! Although we always strive to create a moist cake, some flavors, such as red velvet, chocolate, and carrot, are a bit lighter than their more dense cookies n cream and wedding cake counterparts. So if you have a clear preference, ask your cake artist about the density of their cake layers. And to wrap it up, when choosing a cake flavor, you may want to consider the color of the cake layers. You read that right! For those considering cake designs where the cake layers show through the frosting, such as a naked cake, you may consider what flavor you’re choosing and if it will match your overall wedding aesthetic. Chocolate will be a brown/black, red velvet red, etc. If each tier is a different flavor, they could be different colors…just something to consider! So, with that in mind, if you’re looking for a wedding cake in Utah, let’s get you a cake tasting booked. You won’t regret it!
