Sugar flowers: Why to consider them for your wedding cake.

Florals can be a beautiful addition to your wedding cake design, but when there are so many, which do you choose? From fresh and buttercream florals, to sugar flowers, the options are endless. That may seem overwhelming, so let me share some of the benefits to including sugar flowers in your cake design!

Number 1: Sugar flowers are food safe. Some flowers, although beautiful, are poisonous and should be avoided when considering your cake design. These include but are not limited to baby’s breath, tulips, hydrangeas, foxglove, etc. And even if a flower is not poisonous by nature, using sugar flowers is a great way to keep pesticides and other unwanted chemicals out of your cake!

Number 2: With sugar flowers, color options are unlimited! Because they’re made with gum paste or wafer paper, they can be made in nearly any color to match your special day.

Number 3: Sugar flowers serve as the sweetest keepsake. Unlike real flowers that die, or buttercream flowers that are consumed with the cake, sugar flowers when stored properly (out of humidity) can last almost indefinitely. I’ve had couples place their wedding cake sugar flowers in a vase creating a beautiful arrangement to remind them of their big day. I’ve also seen couples make darling shadow boxes with their wedding cake sugar florals.

Number 4: Sugar flowers always in season. Unlike real flowers, you’re not limited by what flowers are currently in season. The sky’s the limit!

Now, it may sound like I’m a real flower hater, I promise I’m not! Sugar flowers are an investment, and aren’t for everyone, but are definitely worth considering if any of those benefits spoke to you!
